How Breathhh works

Breathhh is a Chrome extension that brings short breathing exercises, desk warm-ups and a mood diary into your workday. It notices when you have been browsing for a while and suggests a mindful break right on the page you are using.

Updated

Get started in three steps

  1. Install the extension

Add Breathhh from the Chrome Web Store. It works in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge 123 or later. Free features need no account.

  2. Take the welcome tour

A short tour introduces the practices and includes a quick breathing demo. If you close it, your progress is kept.

  3. Keep browsing

Breathhh counts your active browsing time in the background and suggests a break when it is time to pause.

When break suggestions appear

Breathhh suggests a break after about two hours of active browsing. Only time spent in a focused browser window on a website counts. Idle time, sleep and minimized or background windows are left out, so a break follows real screen time rather than the clock.

When it is time, a small widget appears in the corner of the current page. Start the practice with one click or skip it this time. Suggestions rotate between breathing, a mood check-in and a warm-up. Choose which practices appear automatically on the Breaks tab of the extension, or start any practice yourself at any moment.

Practices and tools

Guided breathing

A paced cycle of inhale, hold, exhale and hold, four seconds each, guided by an animated face. A session lasts about two minutes. Press Space to start.

Mood diary

Pick how you feel and add an optional note. The Dynamics tab and mood history chart show how your mood changes week by week.

Desk warm-ups

Short video exercises for the back, eyes, neck and shoulders to relieve tension from long hours at the computer. Each video opens in a new tab.

Background noise

White, pink or brown noise with adjustable volume helps mask distracting sounds while you work or wind down. Start and stop it from the extension popup.

Focus Control

Choose website categories that pull you away from work: Entertainment, Social Networking, Shopping, News, Education, Working or Other. Breathhh reminds you when a site contradicts your focus and shows weekly time per category.

  • Browsing activity and Focus Control are calculated locally in your browser. Page addresses are not stored.
  • Mood entries and settings are kept in your browser’s extension storage.
